 R. L. Stine Born in 1943, RL Stine began writing jokes and funny stories. He moved to New York City in the mid-1960s after graduating from The Ohio State University. In 1986, Stine published his first horror novel, Blind Date, for young adults. He launched his popular Fear Street book series three years later. Beginning in 1992, Stine found international acclaim in writing the Goosebumps series, which promoted the creation of additional series and nearly 200 books.

Stine began writing stories at the age of 9, using an older typewriter he had discovered. He initially made jokes and humorous stories, not backbone stories that later made him famous.

        Stine wrote dozens of comic books for children under the name Jovial Bob Stine and created the comic magazine Banana. Bananas was published between 1975 and 1984 for 72 issues published by Scholastic Press for Teens, as well as various “Yearbooks” and paperback books. Stine was the editor and responsible for much writing (other contributors included writers Robert Leighton, Suzanne Lord and Jane Samuels, and artists Sam Viviano, Samuel B. Whitehead, Bob Kay Taylor, Brian Hendrix, Bill Basso, and Howard Kruse). Recurring features include “Hey – Lighten Up!”, “It Never Fails!”, “Phone Calls”, “Joe” (comic strip by John Holmstrom), “Phil Fly”, “Don’t You Wish …”, “Doctor Duck”, “The Fans High’s Teen”, “First Date” (comic strip by Alice Newman), and “Ask Doctor See Tiffish”.

In 1986, Stine wrote his first horror novel, called Blind Date. She followed several other novels including The Babysitter, Beach House, Hit and Run, and The Girlfriend. He was also the co-producer and lead writer for Nickelodeon Network’s children’s television show Eureka Castle, whose original episodes aired as part of the Nick Jr. Programming block during the 1989–1995 seasons.

        Stine launched various spin-off series, including The You Yours Goosebumps (1995), a select-your-own-horror-adventure line, and The Nightmare Room (2000), which was adapted for television and in 2001– Was aired in 02. He also wrote several series related to Fear Street, including Fear Street Super Chillers (1991), Fear Street Senior (1998), and Return to Fear Street (2018). In 2008, Stine revived a classic Goosebumps character, Haunted Dummy, in the first book of the Hugebump Horlandand series, titled Revenge of the Living Dummy. Four years later the Goosebumps Most Wanted series debuted.

        RL Stein has received much acclaim for his achievements and has received numerous awards including the Disney Adventures Kids ‘Choice Award, The Champion of Reading Award as well as the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards. She was also named the author of the all-time best-selling children’s book series. In addition, America’s best-selling author was named by USA Today in the 1990s – three years in a row. In 2007 he was the recipient of the Thriller Writers of America Silver Bullet Award. RL Stein has been married to J. W. Waldhorn since 1969 with whom he shares a son; Matt Stein who was born in 1980.
