Ajit Doval graduated with a master’s degree in Economics from the University of Agra (now Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar University) in Uttar Pradesh. He later pursued post-graduate studies in International Relations from the University of Madras.

Ajit Doval served in the Indian Police Service (IPS) from 1968 to 2005. During his distinguished career, he held several key positions in intelligence and law enforcement agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). He played a crucial role in various covert operations and counter-terrorism initiatives.
One of his notable assignments was in the early 1980s when he successfully orchestrated the rescue of hostages from the hijacked IC-814 Indian Airlines flight in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
