Ramabhadran Sundaram told in the story shared on LinkedIn that former scientist Uthaiya Kumar has set up a cab business worth Rs 2 crores annually. He wrote, “My Uber cab driver has a PhD in Statistics. He used to work with ISRO. He motivated me for leadership lessons.”

Scientist in ISRO for 7 years

Uthaiya Kumar, who hails from a small town in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, did MPhil and PhD before joining ISRO as a scientist. He was working in ISRO like controlling the density of liquid fuel of rockets. Which is a very important task to prevent possible accidents during rocket launching. He worked as a scientist in ISRO for 7 years. During this time, the thought of doing some entrepreneurship came to his mind and then he left this job one year later. However, between leaving his job as a scientist and starting a cab service, he also taught as a professor in an engineering college.

Started startup with the help of friends

Uthaiya Kumar started ‘ST Cabs’ in the year 2017 with the help of friends. This name is named after his parents Sukumaran and Tulsi. This business, which started with a few cars, has grown into a fleet of 37 cars. Due to which approximately two crore rupees are earned annually. He is running this business with his brother.

Uthaiya Kumar makes taxi drivers his business partners. He ensures that he gets 30 percent share. If employees add a new car, they get 70 percent of the earnings. This new approach inspired drivers to attract more customers. Due to which the company benefited. Uthaiya Kumar also saves money for housing facilities for his migrant employees. Besides, he is also bearing the education expenses of 44 children in his hometown.
