Manmohan Seju/Barmer: Durga Puja, the biggest festival of West Bengal, located about 2,000 kilometers from the India-Pakistan border, is at its peak. People of Bengali community, wherever they are, are unable to keep themselves away from this festival. Those who can return to West Bengal, worship Goddess Durga in their homes, while those who cannot return to their homes, celebrate Durga Puja at their workplaces.
These days Durga Puja pandals are decorated in Barmer, far away from West Bengal. Hundreds of Bengali families engaged in gold and silver work are seen worshiping Goddess Durga with their families in Kalyanpur, Barmer district headquarters. For the first time, a 9 feet high idol has been installed here for Durga Puja, which has been made from clay and rice sawdust. Its grandeur is attracting devotees.
Grand pandal decorated at a cost of Rs 4 lakh
It cost about Rs 4 lakh to decorate this pandal. Hundreds of Bengali families living in Barmer, who deal in gold and silver, are organizing Durga Puja in Barmer for the first time with their families. Earlier these families used to participate in the Durga Puja organized at Air Force and Army stations, but this time they themselves have installed a grand statue of Maa Durga in Barmer.
Traditional drum and special sculpture
Along with ordering the idol of Maa Durga from Jodhpur, traditional drummers have also been specially called from Murshidabad, West Bengal, who are representing the cultural heritage of that place. Saikat Manna, a resident of Paschim Medinipur, told Local18 that this is the first time that such a grand Durga pandal has been decorated in Barmer. The 9 feet high idol of the mother has been prepared in a special way and the atmosphere here has become devotional. This Durga Puja event, organized for the first time in Barmer, has enlivened the faith and culture of the local Bengali community.
