Harbhajan Singh: The Indian team had to face a crushing defeat by 113 runs in the second test match against New Zealand. With this, Team India lost the Test series at home after 12 years. Earlier in the year 2012, Team India had lost the Test series at home against England. Indian batsmen have flopped badly against New Zealand. Whereas in the first match, Team India was all out for just 46 runs in the first innings. After the defeat, Team India is being criticized everywhere.
Harbhajan Singh raised questions
Speaking on the defeat of Team India, Harbhajan Singh said that you have had a great record on home ground for such a long time and if you lose then obviously there will be discussion. Credit goes to the way New Zealand played and these were foreign conditions and there was not a pitch which had much crack. These were favorable conditions for the spinners, where the ball should have turned from the first hour itself.
Batting has flopped on turning pitches: Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan raised questions on the thinking process of the Indian team and said that they should look at the trend during the last decades. We have been playing on Turner for most of the last decade with the expectation that we will win the toss and score 300 runs and control the match. But we don’t know whether the tables will turn and whether our batting will work on a turning pitch or not. Our batsmen have lost confidence while playing on these pitches. The biggest example of this is Ajinkya Rahane who is an excellent player. His career suffered due to such pitches.
Mitchell Santner did wonders
Against New Zealand, India lost the crucial toss on the turning pitch of Pune and after that the team could only score 156 and 245 runs. In this, New Zealand’s main spinner Mitchell Santner took 13 wickets. In front of him, Indian batsmen were seen struggling to score runs and could not play big innings. Santner performed brilliantly on a spin-friendly pitch and it was because of him that the team was successful in winning the match.
