Due to local holiday on October 11, people will get three days off for Dussehra, which includes October 11, 12, and 13. Similarly, with the holiday on 2nd November, people will get 4 days long leave to celebrate Diwali, so that they will be able to go to their homes and families without any worries.

Often, due to less holidays, people are not able to celebrate festivals with their families. In such a situation, this holiday will prove especially helpful for those people who are away from their families while living in Shimla.

Educational institutions and offices will remain closed for three days
All educational institutions and government offices will remain closed in Shimla on 11, 12, and 13 October. This holiday will become longer due to the second Saturday and the festival of Dussehra falling together on 12th October. Since October 13 is a Sunday, there is a holiday for three consecutive days, due to which people will be able to celebrate the festival without any worries.

During this period, all government offices, educational institutions, boards and corporation offices under Municipal Corporation Shimla will remain closed. This holiday has already been announced by the Chief Secretary.

Which institutions will remain closed?
According to the orders issued by the Chief Secretary, Himachal Pradesh University and all the colleges under it will remain closed on October 11. Apart from this, there will be a holiday in Himachal Pradesh High Court on this day. All government institutions, boards, and educational institutions falling in Shimla Municipal Corporation area will remain closed. Besides, private educational institutions will also remain closed during this period, due to which all categories of students and employees will be able to get leave.

However, this holiday will not apply to daily wage earners who are not employed regularly. This order was issued by the Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh on 28 February 2024.
