Sikar. Apple is generally cultivated in states like Jammu Kashmir and Himachal. But even in Rajasthan now advanced farmers have started cultivating apple. Rahul Khedar, resident of Sikar district, is growing apples in sand dunes by organic farming. They are earning lakhs of rupees from this. Rahul, who lives in Beri village of Sikar, has 100 apple trees in his farm. The special thing is that they do organic farming. Each tree produces 80 kg of apples annually. Apart from apple farming, Rahul also does nursery business. Rahul earns about Rs 40 lakh annually from fruit farming and nursery.
HRMNN cultivates 99 varieties of apple.
Rahul Khedad told that he started apple cultivation in the year 2015. During that time, he had planted 100 apple plants in a part of his 1.25 acre farm. Cultivating apple here was a big challenge because apple is cultivated in cold regions. The temperature in his village reaches close to 50 degrees during the summer season. Rahul told that he cultivates HRMNN 99 variety of apple. This variety of apple grows in high temperatures. In this farming, he was also supported by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) based in Ahmedabad.
Cultivate other fruits also
Apart from Apple, Rahul also cultivates other fruits. He also has 220 pomegranate plants nearby. About 60 kg of pomegranates are obtained from each plant annually. Apart from this, they also grow organic seasonal fruits, kinnow, lemon and sapota. Apart from this, they also earn good income from plant nurseries. Rahul told that through the nursery he also sells fruit plants to other farmers. These include saffron mango, sapota, seasonal, apple, guava, pomegranate and lemon. They earn about Rs 25 lakh annually from the nursery.
Earns Rs 40 lakh annually
Rahul Khedad told that he sells Apple at the rate of Rs 150 to 200 per kg. Buyers also come to his Shekhawati agricultural farm and nursery to buy organic apples. The special thing is that the taste of these apples grown by Rahul in Rajasthan is sweeter than other varieties of apples. She earns around Rs 40 lakh annually from fruit sales and nursery.
