Durga Puja is celebrated as a festival in the eastern states of India. It is especially popular in West Bengal and its adjoining states like Bihar, Jharkhand and other eastern states. In other states of the country, the festivals of Navratri and Dussehra are also celebrated with great enthusiasm during this period. But, if this festival is celebrated with great pomp in an Islamic country, then it is natural that everyone’s eyes will go towards it.
Good Hindu people live in this Islamic country. Their share in the total population is about 7-8 percent. Its culture is also very old. Actually, the name of this country is Bangladesh. Recently, this country was in the news all over the world due to anti-government protests. Former PM Sheikh Hasina had to flee the country. After this, fundamentalists dominated the interim government formed there. Despite this, the country has declared a four-day holiday on Durga Puja.
According to a report by Dhaka Tribune, earlier two days holiday was declared in the country on Friday and Saturday. Sunday was already a weekly holiday. Now the interim government has announced one more day’s holiday. Now Thursday will also be a public holiday in Bangladesh for Durga Puja.
Before 1947, Bangladesh was a part of India. It was part of the state of Bengal. At that time, the festival of Durga Puja was celebrated with great pomp throughout Bengal. But after the partition of the country, Islamic forces became stronger there and Durga Puja gradually started decreasing. However, now the Hindu people here celebrate the festival of Durga Puja with great pomp.
