New Delhi. Veteran Malayalam film actor TP Madhavan died on Wednesday in a hospital in Kollam, this information was received from sources in the film industry. Madhavan was suffering from dementia and was recovering in the hospital after surgery, but he breathed his last when his condition deteriorated. 88-year-old Madhavan left journalism and entered the film industry at the age of 40. His first film was the famous 1975 Malayalam film ‘Ragam’. After this he worked in more than 600 films, mostly in Malayalam.
Madhavan was a talented actor, who played comedy and serious roles with ease. He did his last film in 2016, after which his health started deteriorating and since then he was living in an old age home in Kollam district. In his long career, he also worked in many TV serials.
Talking about his personal life, his marriage ended in divorce and he is survived by a son, who is a film director in Mumbai. Famous director Kamal said that Madhavan was known for his calm nature. He said, “I met him decades ago when I was an assistant director. He was a voracious reader and had deep knowledge on many subjects.”
Actor Jayaram said that he had recently met Madhavan at the funeral of Kaviyoor Ponnamma and he was looking good then. Jayaram said, “He was always lively during shooting. People used to gather around him and have long conversations. I have very good memories of him because he was a wonderful person.” Madhavan was also the first general secretary of the Malayalam Movie Artistes’ Association (AMMA).
