Dr. Sonia Rawat, Director of Preventive Health and Wellness Department, Sir Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi told News18. Diabetic patients should consume foods which have low glycemic index and high fiber content. Sugar patients should eat sweet and sour fruits instead of very sweet fruits. This will keep their blood sugar under control and will benefit their health. Fruits are rich in nutrients and help in protecting the body from diseases. During the festive season, diabetes patients should eat fruits instead of sweets. This will not harm them.
These fruits are beneficial for diabetes patients
– Strawberry, blueberry, raspberry and blackberry are considered beneficial for diabetes patients. They have low sugar content and are rich in antioxidants. They contain anthocyanin, which can help in improving insulin sensitivity. Berries contain high amount of fiber, which slows down the sugar absorption in the blood, thereby preventing the sugar level from rising.
– Cherry is another fruit, which can be beneficial for diabetic patients. Their glycemic index is low, due to which there is no sudden rise in blood sugar. According to many researches, cherries can help in reducing inflammation and reducing cholesterol levels. Vitamin C and potassium present in cherries are beneficial for heart health.
– Apple is a popular fruit, whose consumption can be considered safe for diabetes patients. Apple has high amount of fiber, which helps in digestion. This can help in controlling blood sugar.
