*The future of Bihar is in darkness. No classroom, no fan, no electricity, no water, the story of this school is astonishing*

Gaurav Jha/Nalanda. Can you believe that the picture you are seeing is of a school? And would you believe that children in Bihar are getting education in such an environment? This picture is of Bijwanpar primary school located in Biharsharif, Nalanda district of Bihar, which is in a bad condition for the last 14 years. Ram’s exile ended in 14 years, but no one knows when the dream of a better building for this school will be fulfilled.

This primary school runs in the community hall of Bijwanpar. About 100 children from classes 1 to 5 study here, most of whom are from the Dalit community. The road to reach the school is very bad, where it is difficult to reach even by bike. When our team reached the school, we found a pile of cow dung cakes in front and a strong smell, which makes the condition of the place even worse. The Principal expressed sadness and said, “We teach like this.”

Reality from Ground Zero
Head teacher Alkhadev told Local 18 that the half-yearly examinations of the school children have been completed and now preparations are being made to send them home, because there is no space for playing or other activities. Gudiya, a fourth class student, said, “The roof here keeps falling, once it even fell on my head. There is neither a washroom nor a hand pump for water. We have to go home, but Sir and Ma’am face a lot of trouble.”

location problem
Since 2010, this school is running in just one room, which is also not fully accessible. Half of the room has been occupied by a local family. There have been many fights between the teachers and that family, but the problem was not resolved. Several applications were made for a new location for the school, but no action has been taken till now.

There is a need to improve at the grassroots level
Education department officials say that soon new arrangements will be made for the school. The process of land allotment is going on and it is expected that soon the school will get a new building and better facilities. Now it remains to be seen how quickly this problem is resolved or these promises will also vanish.
This entire situation has made it clear that merely making policies for better education is not enough, making improvements at the ground level is equally important.
