Shahjahanpur: After harvesting the Kharif crop paddy, farmers are now sowing autumn sugarcane. Scientists of Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Research Council have suggested farmers to take some precautions regarding sowing of sugarcane. Scientists say that if some things are kept in mind at the time of sowing, then sugarcane will not suffer from diseases and good production will also be achieved at low cost.
Shri Prakash Yadav, Scientific Officer of Uttar Pradesh Sugarcane Research Council, said that this time is very suitable for sowing of autumn sugarcane. Farmers have to prepare the fields by deep ploughing. After that, make a bund and add 10 tons of rotten cow dung per hectare. After that sugarcane can be sown from single bud. By sowing single bud method, the seed consumption of sugarcane will be 10 to 12 quintals, whereas by sowing double bud sugarcane, the seed consumption will be 65 to 70 quintals per hectare. Dr. Shri Prakash Yadav told that 25000 sugarcane plants are to be planted in one hectare. During this, care has to be taken that the distance from line to line should not be less than 4 feet and sowing should be done at a depth of 20 cm so that the accumulation of sugarcane will be good.
Co-cropping will be helpful
Mr. Prakash Yadav says that co-cropping can also be done with sugarcane. By doing co-cropping, farmers get a major part of the cost of sugarcane through co-cropping. Farmers get great financial help in preparing the sugarcane crop. Farmers can also grow potatoes, garlic, lahi, peas and kidney beans as side crops.
Use of fertilizer in balanced quantity
Scientist Shri Prakash Yadav told that before sowing the sugarcane crop, soil test should be done and fertilizers should be used as per requirement, but if soil test is not done then farmers should be given fertilizer at the rate of 100 kg per hectare during the sowing of sugarcane. Urea and 500 kg single super phosphate will have to be used. Apart from this, also use 100 kg MOP, 25 kg zinc sulphate and 25 kg reagent. After putting all these fertilizers in the garbage, mix them well in the soil.
Use organic fertilizers also
Shri Prakash Yadav said that it is very important to use organic fertilizers along with organic and chemical fertilizers. During the sowing of sugarcane, Bavaria Bassiana Matarhizium Anisopli at the rate of 5 kg per hectare and PSB (Phosphorus Solubilizing Bacteria) at the rate of 10 kg per hectare and Azotobacter at the rate of 10 kg are also to be used. After that, mix organic fertilizers in the soil and place single-bud or double-budded sugarcane seeds in the furrow and cover it with a layer of soil up to 5 cm. After 20 to 25 days, sugarcane will be completely harvested and after about a month, give light irrigation to the sugarcane. At the time of irrigation, spray about 70 kg urea per hectare.
