Key components and objectives of the Skill India initiative include:

1. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY):

PMKVY is one of the flagship schemes under Skill India, providing financial incentives to individuals who successfully complete approved skill training programs. The scheme aims to train over 40 crore people in India by 2022.

2. National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC):

NSDC is a public-private partnership organization that plays a crucial role in implementing and scaling various skill development programs across the country. It collaborates with private sector companies, industry associations, and training providers.

3. Skill Development Initiatives for Specific Sectors:

Skill India focuses on developing skills in specific sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, information technology, construction, tourism, and more. Sector-specific skill councils are established to design and implement skill development programs tailored to the needs of each industry.

4. Rural Skill Development Programs:

Skill India places emphasis on providing skill development opportunities in rural areas, where a significant portion of the population is engaged in agriculture and allied activities. It aims to enhance the employability of rural youth and promote sustainable livelihoods.

5. Apprenticeship Promotion:

The initiative encourages the promotion of apprenticeships as a means of on-the-job training. It seeks to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills by providing hands-on experience to learners.

6. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):

RPL is a component of Skill India that recognizes and certifies the skills acquired by individuals through informal means. This allows individuals with prior work experience to get formal recognition for their skills.

7. Entrepreneurship Development:

Skill India also focuses on promoting entrepreneurship by providing training and support to individuals interested in starting their own businesses. This includes initiatives such as the Stand-Up India scheme.

8. International Collaboration:

Skill India promotes international collaboration for skill development, including partnerships with foreign governments, institutions, and industries to exchange best practices and enhance the global employability of the Indian workforce.
Overall, Skill India aims to create a workforce that meets the evolving needs of the industry, enhances employability, and contributes to India’s economic growth. The initiative addresses the challenge of unemployment by equipping individuals with the skills required in a rapidly changing global economy.
