Rishikesh: In Hindu religion, everyone worships Maa Durga in different ways. While in most parts of India Navratri starts from 3rd October, in Bengal the Durga Utsav starts from the sixth Navratri. Similarly, in Rishikesh too, a pandal of Maa Durga is set up from the fifth Navratri and everyone remains engaged in worshiping the goddess day and night for these 6 days. This festival is celebrated with great pomp from October 7 to October 12, the day of Dussehra. This 6 day long festival has its own religious significance.
Mata’s pandal is set up from 5th Navratri
During a conversation with Local 18, Shri Durga Puja Committee Secretary Shankar Kumar Rai said that these 9 days of Navratri are celebrated with great pomp throughout Rishikesh. All the devotees organize Maa Darbar, Bhandara, Jagran etc. This pandal of Maa Durga is organized by Shri Durga Puja Committee in Tapovan Rishikesh since 1989. From the 5th Navratri to the last Navratri, colorful programs, Bhandara, Bhog etc. are organized here. Along with this, Maa Durga is worshiped as per the rules and immersion is done on the day of Dashami.
Special artisans are called from Bengal to make the idol.
Shankar Kumar says that it has been almost 35 years since this pandal was established. The idol of Maa Durga is established here from the fifth day of Navratri. Special artisans are called from Bengal to make these idols. Mother Durga is worshiped in a grand manner in the morning and evening. As has been happening in Bengal. In the evening, colorful programs are organized in which children from different schools participate. Also, Bhandara is organized for 2 days in these 6 days. All these events are organized with the cooperation of all the people living nearby. After which the idols are immersed on the day of Dashami, these idols are made eco-friendly and hence do not cause any harm.
