Jaipur: Ravana Dahan is being organized across the country on Saturday, where effigies of Ravana will be burnt. But they say that India is a country full of diversity. Every place has its own different tradition. Similarly, at different places people burn Ravana in their own cultural way. Similarly, in Udaipurwati town of Jhunjhunu district of Rajasthan, guns are fired indiscriminately on the effigy of Ravana as well as his army. This tradition of Dadu Panthi community of firing bullets before burning the effigy of Ravana is about 400 years old. But this time it will not happen. Because the police has not given permission to Dadupanthi Akhara under the new law provision. This time the effigy of Ravana will be burnt with an arrow and bow.
This tradition is followed by the people of Dadupanthi community settled in the Jamaat area of Udaipurwati. People come from far and wide to see this unique Ravana Dahan. With the establishment of Navratri, the Dussehra festival of Dadupanthis begins. The festival is started by hoisting the flag at Balaji Maharaj Temple located in Jamaat School. On the first day of Navratri, rehearsal is traditionally done with guns in Chandmari area.
After this, weapon worship and story-discourse take place. During the festival, Ranbheri, Nobat, Dhol, Tasha and Jhal start playing to hoist the victory flag. During the Dussehra festival, recitation of Durga Saptashati and Daduvani, Chandmari ritual, special aarti take place in Shri Dadu temple and Balaji temple every day. During this period, programs like Rasipooja, Chadar Dastur, Sawamani-Prasad, convention take place.
In this unique Dussehra festival of Dadupanthi community, a crowd of people gather to see Ravana’s army. During Ravana Dahan, many earthen pots are kept here and then they are painted with saffron colours. These pots are placed on top of each other in such a way that a real army is visible on both sides of Ravana. First of all bullets are fired on the army. After this Ravana is shot.
