Dehradun : The process of implementing Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Uttarakhand is now in the final stage. The nine-member panel drafting the rules and regulations for the UCC said after its last meeting that the process has been completed and the draft is being sent for printing. According to sources, it can be implemented on 9th November on the occasion of ‘State Foundation Day’. The panel constituted under the chairmanship of former Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh will now submit its report to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. After this, the way will be cleared for implementing UCC in the state. To know what the people of Uttarakhand think about this important step, Local18 spoke to many local people of Dehradun district.
Vikasnagar resident Raghav Semwal said, it is clear from the name of UCC that it is Uniform Civil Code. I believe that there should be a uniform civil code for all religions. I want to thank the Uttarakhand government on this issue that it is bringing such a law keeping in mind the interests of everyone. This will not be a uniform law for any particular class, but for all.
Be applicable taking into account all religions
Sahil Shahid, another local resident, said, I believe that all religions should be given special care. This law (UCC) should be implemented after consulting scholars of religions. If the government does this, it will be a commendable step. According to Herbertpur resident Laxmi Prasad Bhatt, this law will be equal for everyone and will soon be implemented in Uttarakhand. This should be implemented in other states also. This will not harm any religion, caste or community, rather everyone will come under one social umbrella.
Women’s opinion on Uniform Civil Code
Amid discussions about the implementation of UCC, Local18 also spoke to local women. Anita Dimri, a local resident, said, this is a good step for our state of Uttarakhand. All people will be under the same law. Another local resident Kiran Joshi said, the steps that the Uttarakhand government is taking, the same law should be implemented in the entire country. Anita Chauhan said, there should be similar rules and regulations for everyone. No law should be different for any particular community. Where everyone is equal, the law is good. Sarla Dimri said, this kind of law is good for the hill state. For this I want to thank the government.
