Raipur. Chhattisgarh, which was once called the “island of peace”, is now increasingly in the grip of criminal incidents. In recent times, heart-wrenching incidents have come to light from different parts of the state. Whereas earlier crime was limited only to big cities, now even remote areas have become vulnerable to it. Recently in Surajpur district, the head constable’s wife and daughter were murdered with a sword, and the house was burnt. There have also been reports of attacks on administrative officials.
Opinion of local people
Rajesh Sawant, a resident of the capital Raipur, says that the basic nature of Chhattisgarh has always been peaceful. “The people here are peaceful by nature, but now outsiders are coming and promoting violence, which should be investigated. It may be possible that this is part of some bigger conspiracy. Incidents of rape of small girls are highly condemnable, and the government should take a strict stance in these matters. “The violent and obscene content spreading on social media is corrupting the mentality of people, and this can be a major reason for increasing crimes in the society.”
Varun, who runs a shop at Raipur bus stand, believes that this problem is not limited to Chhattisgarh only, but crimes are increasing in the entire country. He said, “Recently in Kolkata too, an incident of rape of a girl took place during Durga immersion. Crime is also increasing in Chhattisgarh, and the government will have to take strict steps to stop it.”
Rickshaw puller Ajay Sahu says that “Chhattisgarh was earlier a symbol of peace and prosperity, but now people are becoming demonic in nature. Serious crimes have also come to light in the capital Raipur and Durg. The government should take strict action against outsiders and drug addicts, so that the increasing crimes in the state can be controlled.”
