Noida: A serious defect has been found in the antibiotic medicine being given to the patients in the District Hospital located in Sector-39. The sample of this medicine supplied by Modern Lab of Indore has failed in the Central Lab of Lucknow. After which the hospital immediately seized the remaining stock and the distribution was banned. This medicine was being given to the patients for about one and a half months, due to which serious questions are being raised on the health of the patients.
What are the shortcomings?
Talking about the shortcomings, in the testing of this “low impact” antibiotic, Amoxicillin and Potassium Clavulanate 625 mg, the amount of Potassium Clavulanate was found to be only 81% instead of the standard 90%. This reduces the effectiveness of the medicine. However, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the hospital, Dr. Renu Aggarwal said that this flaw will not cause any direct harm to the patients, but the effect of the medicine may be weakened. The main drug, amoxicillin, was found to be up to 98% of the standard.
Medicine stock and further action
About 8000 tablets were ordered by the hospital, now after the report the process of seizing and sending them back has started. Drug Inspector Jai Singh said that samples of three medicines were sent from the store of the district hospital for testing, in which this antibiotic was also included. Necessary legal action is being taken against the company after finding flaws in the report.
Statement from hospital administration
The hospital administration says that they always try to ensure that only effective and standard medicines are given to the patients. To prevent such incidents in future, strict action will be taken against the company supplying the medicine, so that the health of the patients is not compromised in any way.
CMS statement
CMS doctor of the district hospital, Renu Aggarwal, said that in this report the percentage of clavulanate is 81%, whereas ideally it should be 90%. Therefore its effectiveness is slightly less. Otherwise there are no side effects. The main drug, amoxicillin, is 98%. But we are returning the stock. The function of clavulanate is to increase the effectiveness. The main drug is amoxicillin, which is generic.
