Mau/Rajeev Sharma: Ramjanaki temple near village Barhadpur Kuti, located in the west direction from the calendar intersection of Muhammadabad Gohna in Mau, attracts people due to its amazing architecture and mysterious legends. This temple is especially known for its carvings and historical importance. There is also a reservoir situated in front of it, which never dries up and is always full of water. People believe that one should avoid taking false oaths in this temple, because it is considered a holy place.
History and Architecture of the Temple
Ram Janaki Temple was constructed in 1914 AD by Late Ram Prasad Chaudhary, resident of Rasulpur, at a cost of approximately Rs 1.5 lakh. Special Ashtadhatu idols were installed in this temple, which were stolen decades ago. However, despite the idols being stolen, people come from far and wide to see the carvings and architecture of the temple. For the construction material of the temple, special stones were brought from Chunar, Varanasi and Jaunpur. The craftsmanship done on these stones is unique, which brings alive the excellent art of the artisans.
Grand reservoir in front of the temple
There is a grand reservoir situated just in front of the temple, the water in which never dries up. This reservoir is also famous for its magnificent craftsmanship. Fish have been added to it, which have now become bigger than humans in size. No one eats these fish, because it is believed that whoever eats these fish will have to face problems throughout his life. This belief is due to the boon given by the priest of the temple, and people have unwavering faith in it.
Maintenance and current condition of the temple
Despite the historical and religious importance of the temple, it is not maintained and cleaned from time to time, due to which this temple is now shedding tears over its grandeur. However, the people of the area still consider it a center of faith and keep coming to visit it.
