iDeCK report on Bengaluru’s second airport expected within a week says Minister M.B. Patil

The Infrastructure Development Corporation of (Karnataka) Limited (iDeCK) report is expected to be released within a week, confirmed MB Patil, Minister of Large and Medium Scale Industries.

Responding to a question during the Karnataka assembly winter session, he stated that once the report is received, a proposal will be submitted to the Airports Authority of India (AAI) to finalize the location for the second airport for Bengaluru.

Land acquisition is expected to commence following AAI’s approval. “AAI will determine and finalize the location after evaluating factors such as passenger traffic, industrial transportation needs, and the geographic characteristics of the site,” he added.

Patil previously confirmed five potential locations for the second airport, including Dabaspet, Nelamangala, Bidadi, and Harohalli.

Earlier this year, the minister highlighted the necessity for a second airport in Bengaluru, currently the third-busiest airport in India after Delhi and Mumbai. Last year, it handled 37.5 million passengers and over 400,000 tonnes of cargo. The existing airport is expected to reach its peak passenger capacity by 2033 and its maximum cargo capacity by 2040.
