From a 100 year old senior physician whose father was a tailor from Pakistan. He came to Dehradun after the partition of India-Pakistan. Here he did DIMS course. Early life and education
Giving information to Local 18, a senior physician of Dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, has said that Dr UC Chandna’s ancestors were in Pakistan. His father used to work as a tailor there. He studied high school and intermediate from a school in Bannu, after which his family shifted to Dehradun during the partition of India-Pakistan. His father opened a tailor shop in Paltan Bazaar and started his work. A big doctor from Dehradun came to his place and advised Dr UC Chandna to pursue medical studies. At that time he did DIMS course and started practicing. After this he started this work. Dr. Uttam Chand Chandna, born in the year 1924, has been providing services on Chakrata Road, Dehradun for many years.

Dr UC Chandna told that he has seen a lot in his life. When he was staying in a hostel in Rishikesh for medical studies. At that time the British used to focus only on the youth. Slogans of freedom started echoing from his hostel also. After this, all the students including Dr UC Chandna were packed in vehicles by the British soldiers and sent to jail. He told that nothing was given to eat and there was no drinking water. Dr UC Chandna says that in just a few decades he has seen the condition of Dehradun changing. He said that there used to be a time when Dehradun had a population of 30 thousand but today the population is more than 30 lakh.
