New Delhi. When a person reaches the highest position, he starts worrying about how he will be seen in history. How will the coming generations remember him? Similar worries and fears have started troubling Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud as well. On reaching among the students, CJI Chandrachud openly expressed his feelings. Actually, he is retiring in November. He said that he has served the country with full dedication amid the fear and worry about how history will evaluate his tenure. The two-year term of the 50th CJI of India will end on November 10.
CJI Chandrachud said that he finds himself pondering these questions: Have I achieved whatever I had set out to do? How will history evaluate my tenure? Could I have done something differently? What legacy will I leave for future generations of judges and legal professionals? CJI Chandrachud said these things while addressing the third convocation ceremony of Jigme Singye Wangchuk School of Law in Bhutan. He further said, ‘The answers to most of these questions are beyond my control and perhaps I will never be able to find answers to some of these questions. However, I know that in the last two years, I have woken up every morning with the commitment that I will do my work with full dedication and sleep with the satisfaction that I have served my country with utmost dedication.

‘Very worried’
CJI Chandrachud expressed regret for becoming weak at a time when he is about to retire. He said that he is very much concerned with the fears and worries of the future and the past. He said, ‘When you’re dealing with the complexities of your journey, don’t be afraid to take a step back, re-evaluate, and ask yourself whether I’m running toward a destination or am I running toward myself. ? The difference is subtle, yet profound. Ultimately, the world needs leaders who are driven not just by ambition, but by purpose. The CJI said that when one has a sense of confidence in one’s abilities and intentions, it becomes easier for one to stop worrying so much about the results and give importance to the process and journey leading to those results.
‘Enjoy the journey towards the goal’
CJI Chandrachud said that in the last few years, I have realized that the roots of our ability to contribute to our society lie in our self-awareness and self-welfare. CJI Chandrachud said that instead of getting entangled in apprehensions about reaching the destination, one should enjoy the journey towards the goal. Let us tell you that CJI Chandrachud has given judgments on important issues affecting public life, besides initiating reforms in technical, administrative and infrastructure to increase the efficiency of the justice system. CJI Chandrachud assumed charge in the Supreme Court on 13 May 2016.
