Vijayawada. An accused who married four women through matrimonial website has been arrested. The police have arrested a gang which used to contact the families and go to the girl’s family’s house and cheat in exchange for the bride. This gang used to cheat money from many families by promising them jobs in top institutions like ISRO. It is being told that this gang has defrauded victims of several families with an amount of Rs 1.50 crore.
According to Vijayawada’s Bhimadol Inspector UJ Wilson, Assam Anil Babu, a native of Venkatagiri mandal of Nellore district, is now living in Madhira in Khammam district. He had registered himself as Kalyan on the Telugu Bharat Matrimonial website, but when no response came, he updated his profile to Kalyan Reddy. The groom used to call the bride’s family and call himself her father. Accused Anil Babu used to tell the bride’s family that he and his wife were working in ISRO. Not only this, his son is also working in ISRO.
What promise did the groom make?
Anil Babu used to claim that he had 100 acres of agricultural land and two villas. After going to the bride’s house, he would assure her that he did not want anything in dowry. He will trust the bride’s family and relatives and get her a job. In return he would collect huge amount from them. He used to decide that the payment should be deposited in some other accounts instead of his personal bank account. He rented a villa in Bengaluru and a farm house in Chevella on the outskirts of Hyderabad and made a man and a woman his fake parents.
How did you raise your family and staff?
Apart from the parents, the accused hired a personal PA, a watchman and two bouncers. Meanwhile, he contacted a family at Gundugolanu in Bhimadole mandal of Eluru district and convinced one family that he would marry their second daughter, Gunda Lakshmi Kumari, and get their third daughter a job in ISRO. In the process, he swindled Rs 9.53 lakh from the family and issued fake appointment orders after conducting interviews with another accused, Thunga Shashank.
Police have recovered Rs 22 lakh in cash, a car, 13 SIM cards, a computer used in making fake appointment orders, five mobile phones, two laptops and four bank check books.
