In 2015, Clemson University honored him with an Honorary Doctorate of Automotive Engineering. In 2018, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Swansea University.
Which awards did Ratan Tata receive?
Ratan Tata was awarded both the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan, India’s highest awards. The Padma Vibhushan award is the second highest civilian award given by the Government of India and the Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian award. Ratan Tata was awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 2000, while in the year 2008 he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan. In 2004, he was given the Medal of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay by the Government of Uruguay. B’nai B’rith International honored Ratan Tata with the International Distinguished Achievement Award in 2005. In 2006, he was given the (FIRST) International Award for Inspiration in Science and Technology. The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace awarded him the Carnegie Philanthropy Medal in 2007 and the Government of Singapore awarded him the Honorary Citizen Award in 2008.
Received Britain’s highest civilian honor
In 2009, Ratan Tata was awarded the ‘Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire’ (GBE), one of Britain’s highest civilian honours. He was the first Indian to be honored with this award. Similarly, in 2009 itself, the Indian National Engineering Academy also gave him the Lifetime Contribution Award in Engineering for 2008. In the same year, he was awarded the Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the Italian Government. In 2010, Ratan Tata also received the Hadrian Award by the World Memorial Fund, the Oslo Business for Peace Award by the Business for Peace Foundation, and the Asia’s Business Leader Award. In 2012, the Government of Japan honored Ratan Tata with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun Award. In 2013, he was given the Foreign Associate Award, Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year – Lifetime Achievement by the National Academy of Engineering. Baroda Management Association gave him the Sayaji Ratna Award in 2014. In 2016, the French government gave Ratan Tata the award of Commander of the Legion of Honor. Assam Government gave Assam Vaibhav Samman in 2021.
Fellow from many places
In 2007, Ratan Tata was given an honorary fellowship by the London School of Economics and Political Science. The Institution of Engineering and Technology gave him an Honorary Fellowship in 2008. He was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2012.
