Jerusalem. Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Galant said on Wednesday that an attack by Israel on Iran would be ‘deadly’ and ‘shocking’. Gallant said that a strong response will be given to the recent missile attack by Iran.
A statement issued by Gallant’s office said that Iran would be shocked by the Israeli attack. Without giving any details, the Defense Minister said, “They will not be able to understand what happened and how it happened.” Last week, Iran fired several missiles at Israel, which has further increased the tension between the two countries.
This statement from the Israeli Defense Minister has come at a time when US President Joe Biden spoke on phone with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday. The talks come at a time when Israel recently launched ground military operations in Lebanon and is considering retaliating against Iran’s ballistic missile attack.
The Iranian army bombarded Israel with ballistic missiles on the night of October 1. “Military and security establishments” have been mainly targeted in the attack. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the missile attack as “revenge for the killing of top Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and IRGC commander Major General Sayyid Abbas Nilforoushan by Israeli forces.”
Israeli media had reported that Iran fired about 180 ballistic missiles at Israel on the night of October 1. According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Israeli air defense systems intercepted a “large number” of the 180 ballistic missiles fired by Iran before they hit their targets. The Times of Israel quoted the IDF as saying that America has announced its support to Israel.
