Pilibhit. Along with natural resources, Pilibhit district is also very important culturally and historically. Many ancient heritage sites are present in Pilibhit but unfortunately everything is in bad condition. But recently, due to the efforts of social workers, the State Archaeological Survey team has conducted a ground survey of the mound present in Shahgarh. The survey team has admitted that this mound is much more ancient.
In fact, it is believed that there used to be a fort of King Venu, the contemporary ruler of the Mahabharata period, in the Shahgarh area of Pilibhit. The existence of this fort in Shahgarh was also confirmed by Alexander Cunningham, the first director of the Archaeological Survey of India during the British period, in his survey report published in 1862, 1963, 1964. This important heritage was also becoming a victim of neglect. The situation is that the land of this mound, which has archaeological importance, is being cultivated.
The survey lasted for 3 hours
In most of the houses of the village, ancient bricks extracted from this mound have been used. The city’s young social worker Shivam Kashyap had been trying for quite some time to preserve this historical and cultural heritage. After a long lobbying, a three-member team of the State Archaeological Survey Department had recently reached Pilibhit. The team made a detailed tour of the mound and in the survey which lasted for about 3 hours, the team also found many important evidences. The team has also taken some samples from here for various tests including carbon dating. The team of archaeologists also believed that this mound is quite ancient. However, the picture will be clear only after the detailed report of the survey comes.
Administration is not serious about ancient heritage
On one hand, many campaigns and awareness campaigns are being run to preserve the historical and cultural heritage of the country. On the other hand, due to the careless attitude of the local administration, many historical heritages are turning into dust. If we talk about Pilibhit, then all the heritages from the British period, Ruhilla rule till Mahabharata period are present here. But the local administration is not alert or serious towards any one of these heritages.
