What were the Gohana and Mirchpur incidents of Haryana? With this, BJP worked to woo the Dalits.21 percent Dalit voters in the state, which is very important
Gohana & Mirchpur Incidents: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) did what political experts had not expected in Haryana. Most of the exit polls that came after the voting showed Congress leading. But BJP destroyed the exit polls and all the election projections. It is almost certain that BJP will get a hat-trick of victory in Haryana. According to the trends, BJP seems to be getting lead on about 50 seats. Whereas Congress seems to be limited to only around 35 seats. BJP did this feat by polarizing non-Jat votes.
In March this year, when the top leadership of BJP realized that if it keeps Manohar Lal Khattar as the Chief Minister, then it is impossible for it to return to power in Haryana. The top leadership got the resignation of Manohar Lal Khattar on March 13 and by evening made Naib Singh Saini the new Chief Minister. BJP had already done this experiment in many states, which was effective. But this step proved correct in Haryana also. Naib Singh Saini was made the Chief Minister as an OBC face. As soon as he became the Chief Minister, Naib Saini opened the treasury for populist schemes. He worked to reduce anti-incumbency towards BJP and correct the mistakes of Manohar Lal Khattar.

BJP worked to win the hearts of Dalits
The biggest thing BJP did was that it tried to win the hearts of Dalits and was also successful. BJP kept telling how much injustice was done to Dalits during the Congress government. He worked to show that it was during the Congress government led by Bhupinder Hooda that the Gohana incident in 2005 and Mirchpur incident in 2010 took place. Even when Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to Haryana for election campaign, he mentioned Mirchpur and Gohana incident. He was not the only BJP leader to mention these two incidents. Even Amit Shah, Manohar Lal Khattar and Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini had mentioned this. BJP leaders kept mentioning these incidents to portray Congress as anti-Dalit.
Dalit houses were burnt in Gohana
The Gohana incident took place in 2005 during the Congress government led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda. In a case of inter-caste violence in Gohana, Sonipat, 50 houses of Dalits were burnt. People of Jat community were accused in this case. At that time it had come to light that Dalits had murdered a Jat youth. In this case, the CBI special court had acquitted all the 11 accused. The reason for acquittal was the lack of concrete evidence in the court and witnesses turning hostile from their statements. BJP made Gohana incident an issue during the election campaign in Haryana.

What happened in Mirchpur in 2010
Mirchpur village is located in Hisar district of Haryana. In this village, dozens of houses of people of Valmiki community were razed to the ground on 21 April 2010. Eyewitnesses said that the attacking mob attacked the houses of Valmiki community and set them on fire. An elderly man and his disabled daughter were burnt to death in this fire. The people of Jat community were accused of this. This matter had reached the court. The court had sentenced 20 culprits to life imprisonment in this case. Even before the court’s decision, more than 125 Dalit families had fled from Mirchpur village. These families have not returned to their village till date.
Successful in weakening Congress
When the Mirchpur incident took place, there was a Congress government in Haryana. Bhupendra Singh Hooda was the Chief Minister. That’s why BJP is reminding people of Mirchpur incident. So that he can weaken the prospects of Congress. Before the elections, it was believed that if Congress government is formed in Haryana this time, then Bhupendra Singh Hooda will be the Chief Minister. BJP’s attempt was to weaken Congress’s Constitution and reservation narrative. She made every possible effort to prove Congress to be anti-Dalit and anti-reservation and was successful. She was successful in telling that Bhupendra Singh Hooda is a Jat and if he becomes the Chief Minister again, Dalits will again be the target of this domineering community.

How much do Dalit voters matter?
The population of Dalits in Haryana is about 21 percent. Apart from this, 17 assembly seats are reserved in the state. At the same time, there are 35 such assembly seats on which Dalit voters play a decisive role. During the Lok Sabha elections, BJP had to lose five seats due to the resentment of Dalit voters. Taking a lesson from this, BJP does not want to miss any opportunity to bring Dalits into its fold. This is the reason why even the smallest and biggest leaders of BJP were engaged in raising the issues of Dalits.
