The government has taken a big step to reduce the price of onion during festivals. The government has sent a large consignment of onions from Maharashtra to Delhi. Special ‘Kanda Express Train’ has reached Delhi from Maharashtra carrying onions. After this, this onion will be made available to the common people at the price of Rs 35/kg through NCCF, NAFED and mobile vans in Delhi. Let us tell you that the price of onion has reached Rs 75 per kg in the retail market of Delhi. This is causing a lot of trouble to the common people. The government has started full preparations to ensure that prices do not increase further during the festive season.
Onion supply will increase to reduce prices
To reduce onion prices before Diwali, the government has decided to supply 1,600 tonnes of onion to the wholesale markets of Delhi with the help of Indian Railways. Once onions reach Delhi, 2,500 to 2,600 tonnes of onions will be supplied daily to the markets in and around Delhi. Onions have come to Delhi from Nashik loaded in 42 train coaches.
Preparation to provide relief to other states also
Recently, Consumer Affairs Secretary Nidhi Khare had said that like Delhi, this arrangement will be made in other states of the country. Our focus is to expand to Lucknow, Varanasi and North Eastern states including Assam, Nagaland and Manipur. Let us tell you that the prices of onion, tomato and green vegetables have increased since the month of September. Due to this, common people are facing problems. Preparations have been started to ensure that the prices do not increase further during the festive season.
