New Delhi. BJP candidate Shagun Parihar won the Kishtwar seat of Jammu and Kashmir. According to the Election Commission, Parihar won the Kishtwar assembly seat by defeating National Conference’s Sajjad Ahmed Kitchlu. BJP’s decision to field Shagun Parihar as its candidate was a strategic move to garner the support of the religious population of the district. The selection of Shagun Parihar’s candidature could potentially connect both the large Muslim population and the small Hindu community. BJP hoped that it would be able to make inroads in the area which has been affected by terrorist incidents in the past.
The selection of Shagun Parihar was seen as an attempt to bridge the gap between the two religious groups and promote a sense of unity in adverse circumstances. BJP recognizes the importance of addressing the concerns of all voters in order to effectively serve the people of the district and work towards a more harmonious future. No matter what their religion is. In her first election campaign, Shagun Parihar tried to win the trust of voters by making her election plank a commitment to punish those accused of looting businesses and committing violence and to “bring peace, security and prosperity” to the common people.
Who is Shagun Parihar?
Shagun Parivar, who has an M.Tech degree in Electric Power Systems, is currently pursuing her doctorate and is preparing for the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission examination. Parihar’s father Ajit Parihar and his uncle Anil Parihar were killed by terrorists on November 1, 2018, just before the Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir. Both of them were senior leaders in BJP. During the election campaign, Shagun had stressed that the votes for her would not be for her family, but for every family who suffered losses due to terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
5 reasons why Congress-National Conference alliance emerged strongly in Jammu and Kashmir elections
Kishtwar was the stronghold of National Conference
His uncle Anil, considered a moderate voice within the BJP, had managed to garner some support from the Muslim community. He remained actively involved in the politics of Kishtwar during the peak of insurgency. Especially during the BJP’s Doda Bachao movement in the 1990s, senior party leaders were arrested in Jammu. Historically, Kishtwar has been a stronghold of the National Conference. But the political scenario changed in 2014, when BJP captured the seat for the first time, with its candidate Sunil Sharma emerging victorious.
