Bhilwara : In the entire country and state, Ravana is burnt by burning his effigy, but there is a village in Bhilwara of Rajasthan state where Ravana is killed. Not only this, when there is a famine situation in the village, then Ravana is worshiped. A wish for good rain is sought. A 10 feet high permanent statue of Ravana has been built in this village and it is painted every year before Dussehra. On this special occasion, entire Bhilwara Shahpura district as well as surrounding villages gather here. Along with this, a grand fair is organized.

In Ropan village of Bhilwara district, on the occasion of Dussehra festival, instead of burning the effigy of Ravana, a permanent idol made in the village is killed. Before Dussehra, the idol of Ravana is painted. After this, during the festival of Dussehra, this idol is killed by a child disguised as Ram and people from the village as well as surrounding areas come here to see this event. For the last 70 years, a statue of Ravana has been built in Ropa, which is painted and killed every year on the occasion of Dussehra. Due to this, other villagers also call this village Ravana’s village.

Pandit Satyanarayan Sharma said that a program of Lanka Dahan is organized in Ropa village one day before the killing of Ravana, under this, a procession of Thakur ji is taken out from Lord Charbhuja Nath temple of the village. After this, Ram Lakshman’s bid is made, after which the child artist playing Hanuman reaches Ravana Chowk, where the program of burning of Lanka takes place. After this, Ravana is killed with a bow and arrow by a young man disguised as Ram.

Ravana is worshiped
Pandit Satyanarayan Sharma says that in olden times there used to be famine in the village. Then all the nearby villagers used to reach here and worship Ravana together and pray for good rains.

That’s why Ravana is killed
Giving the reasoning behind not cremating Ravana, he said that Ravana was a scholar and at the last moment, at the behest of Lord Shri Ram, Lakshman had attained knowledge by standing near Ravana’s feet. How can a human being get the right to burn a scholar from whom God himself has received knowledge? We cannot insult our religious scriptures by burning Ravana, the expert of Vedanta.
