Ratan Tata Father: The story of Naval Hormusji Tata is interesting and inspiring, which shows how a combination of luck and hard work can change a person’s life. Naval was born on 30 August 1904 in Mumbai (then Bombay), but by birth he had no connection with the Tata family. His father worked as a spinning master in Advance Mills, Ahmedabad. In 1908, when Naval was only 4 years old, his father died. After the death of her father, her mother took her to Navsari in Gujarat, where she started embroidery work so that the family could survive. The circumstances were difficult, but Naval’s fate was deciding something else.
To improve the circumstances, Naval was appointed as J. N. Petit was sent to the Parsi Orphanage, from where the change in his life began. It was here that he met Nawazbai Tata, who was the wife of Sir Ratanji Tata. Nawazbai was so impressed with Naval that she decided to adopt him, and thus Naval joined the Tata family. When Naval was adopted, he was only 13 years old. After this Naval got excellent education and he graduated in Economics from Bombay University. After this he went to London and started doing courses related to accounting.
The experience of poverty shaped life
Naval often said that the experience of poverty played an important role in shaping his life. He admitted that this difficult time made him strong and tolerant.
Naval Tata’s personal life was also interesting. He had two marriages. His first marriage was with Suni Commissariat, from whom he had two sons –Ratan Tata and Jimmy TataHowever, they got divorced after a few years of this marriage. He then married Simone Dunoyer of Switzerland, with whom he had another son, named Niol Tata.
