In this fair, farmers from all over the country exhibited various plants, seeds and agricultural equipment. Along with this, information related to farming and crops was given to the farmers by experts.

‘Macadamia Nuts’ caught everyone’s attention
The biggest attraction of this agricultural fair was the ‘Macadamia Nuts’ plant, famous as the world’s most expensive almond. Detailed information was given about its cultivation, so that farmers of Uttarakhand can also earn profit by cultivating this plant. Saplings of ‘Macadamia Nuts’ were available for sale in Pantnagar Agricultural Fair. A nursery in Kolkata, West Bengal has adapted this plant to the Indian climate.

‘Macadamia Nuts’ adapted to Indian climate
While giving information, nursery owner Ayan Mandal said that farmers of Australia, South Africa, Nepal, Bhutan and Bangladesh are successfully cultivating ‘Macadamia Nuts’, but it was not being cultivated in India. Ion Mandal brought 25-30 years old mother plant from Australia to India and prepared the plant suitable for the climate here.

He told that ‘Macadamia Nuts’ can be easily grown in temperatures ranging from -3 to 45 degrees. However, this plant should be kept away from waterlogged areas. It can be easily cultivated in terraced fields in Terai and hilly areas.

‘Macadamia Nuts’ are sold at high prices
Ayan Mandal told that many types of minerals, fiber and antioxidants are found in abundance in ‘Macadamia Nuts’, due to which it is very beneficial for heart patients. This is the reason why this species is among the most expensive almonds in the world. ‘Macadamia nuts’ are sold in the market for two to three thousand rupees per kg.

After getting information about this plant in the agricultural fair of Pantnagar, farmers of Uttarakhand can increase their income by cultivating ‘Macadamia Nuts’.
