Punjab Gram Panchayat Election Result 2024
Chandigarh: The results of Gram Panchayat elections have started coming out in Punjab. Counting of votes started after polling ended at 4 pm on Tuesday. The results of Sarpanch and Panch of many villages have been declared while counting of votes is going on at some places.
These candidates won
According to the information, Rampal Singh Sidhu was elected Sarpanch of Malkana village. Surjeet Kaur was elected Sarpanch of Jagga Ram Terth Kalan village. Migrant woman Ram Bai was elected sarpanch in Dagana Khurd village of Hoshiarpur. Bibi Ranjit Kaur was elected Sarpanch of Shahkot village. She is associated with Shiromani Akali Dal. 21 year old Navneet Kaur has become the Sarpanch of Harkishanpura village of Sangrur. Navneet Kaur got 353 votes out of 415 votes. At the same time, in Lohian of Shahkot, a candidate associated with Shiromani Akali Dal won the Panchayat elections. Kamaljeet Singh was elected Sarpanch.
3,798 sarpanches have been elected unopposed
19,110 polling stations were set up for the Panchayat elections, of which 1,187 were said to be highly sensitive. There are 13,225 gram panchayats in the state. According to the official, the posts of sarpanch were vacant in 9,398 gram panchayats. 3,798 candidates have already been elected unopposed for sarpanch posts.
Violent incidents took place at many places
Let us inform that on Tuesday, voting for Gram Panchayats was held in Punjab amidst tight security arrangements. There were incidents of clashes including firing during voting. Officials said that after the voting, counting of votes started at the polling stations. An incident of firing took place outside a polling booth in Sohan Sain Bhagat village of Tarn Taran district in which one person was injured. Injured Mandeep Singh was taken to the hospital where his condition is said to be out of danger.

Another incident of firing took place in Khudda village of Patiala district. One person was injured by the bullet. According to police, several people reached a polling booth and allegedly assaulted polling personnel and snatched a ballot box. Later he threw the ballot box in a nearby field. Villagers alleged that some people tried to capture the polling booth. Congress MP Dharamvir Gandhi, who visited the spot, demanded strict action in the matter. An incident of firing also took place in Kotla Mehar Singh village of Moga. Unidentified people pelted stones outside a polling booth in Karimpur village. Due to this, a police station in-charge in Pataran, Patiala was injured. The incident occurred when some villagers tried to enter the polling booth after the polling was over and were stopped by the police.
