New Delhi. Recently, people in the country celebrated Dussehra festival with great enthusiasm after Durga Puja during Navratri. While some people observed Vrat during Navratri, there were some people who enjoyed the staging of Ramlila very much. Meanwhile, there is a state in the country where people drank alcohol heavily in the last 10 days. People became so intoxicated while enjoying alcohol that the government treasury also got a lot of benefit during this period. We are talking about Telangana state. The nine-day Navratri and Vijayadashami brought a total profit of Rs 1,000 crore to the Excise Department’s treasury.

According to Telangana Excise Department, a total of Rs 1,057 crore increased in the government treasury during these 10 days. During this period, beer sales were 18 lakh cases, which contributed the most to the total revenue. So far in the financial year 2024-25, the state has earned Rs 19,857 crore from the sale of liquor. Data available with Times of India shows that 10.45 lakh cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) were sold. The state government had earned Rs 877 crore from the sale of liquor between October 1 and 11 in the last financial year (2023-24). During the same period this year, sales increased by 20 percent.

Even dry day of Gandhi Jayanti did not make any difference
According to the Telangana government, one of these 10 days was Gandhi Jayanti, due to which all the liquor shops in the state remained closed. Despite this, liquor sales were breaking records. It is believed that people fond of alcohol had prepared liquor for themselves the day before. Due to which Gandhi Jayanti did not affect him. Liquor sales in 2023-24 were Rs 36 thousand crores.

Liquor sales increased 3.5 times in 9 years
The increase in beer sales this year was 10 percent more in 2023-24 compared to October 1-11. It is being claimed that the sale of liquor is increasing every year in Telangana. When Telangana was formed in 2014-15, the total revenue from liquor was only ₹10,000 crore. However, by the 2023-24 financial year it increased to Rs 36,493 crore.
