Srinagar. After the National Conference and Congress alliance got the majority in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, now speculations are being made about who will be the Chief Minister there. However, soon after the majority came out in the results, Farooq Abdullah made it clear in his statement that his son Omar Abdullah would be the CM, but now Omar himself has said that nothing has been decided in this regard yet.
National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah said on Tuesday that in the meeting of the constituent parties of the ‘India’ alliance, the claim to form the government will be made only after the leader of the alliance is elected in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Abdullah told reporters outside his residence here, “The National Conference will be a meeting of the legislative party. I am not staking claim to become the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir. “The alliance and the elected members will decide who they want to elect to lead the state for the next five years.”
Earlier, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah had announced that Omar Abdullah would become the Chief Minister. Omar said he was grateful for the confidence reposed in him by the National Conference president. He said that the National Conference legislature party and the alliance will together take a decision in this regard. He said that the party should celebrate and the party leaders and workers should take a sigh of relief, after which the National Conference Legislature Party meeting will be held.
Omar said, “In a few days we will call a meeting of our legislature party, in which the leader of the National Conference legislature party will be elected. Then we will sit with the alliance and decide who will lead it. Then when we get all the letters of support, we will stake claim to form the government before the Lieutenant Governor.”
He said that the mandate has proved that people have voted against BJP’s politics in Jammu and Kashmir. Omar said, “There was no division of votes in the high altitude areas of Kashmir and Jammu. I feel that people exercised their franchise thoughtfully, now it is the responsibility of the alliance to give a clean government that lives up to the expectations of the people.”
Earlier in Budgam, Omar Abdullah had said that in the last five years, many attempts were made to ruin his party by forming new organizations but these organizations were destroyed in this election. “In the last five years, attempts were made to destroy the National Conference,” he told reporters after receiving the certificate of his victory from the returning officer of Budgam seat. “Many parties were formed here whose sole objective was to destroy the National Conference, but God blessed us and those who tried to destroy us perished in the process.”
Omar said, “I am grateful to the people of Budgam who made me successful by voting for me and once again gave me an opportunity to serve the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” He said that the party’s responsibilities have increased due to the election results. Omar said, “Now it is our duty to live up to the expectations of the people through our work and this will be our endeavor for the next five years.” Omar thanked PDP President Mehbooba Mufti for congratulating the National Conference for this spectacular victory.
