इकलौता मंदिर… जहां सिर्फ पुरुष करते हैं गरबा! परंपरा में बदलाव के लिए तैयार नहीं महिलाएं, जानें क्यों

Khargon. During Navratri, when women are seen performing Garba all over Khargone, a tradition continues in the rest of the Mata temple, which raises questions even in this period. This is probably the only temple in the world, where only men perform Garba, while women are forced to sit at a distance and watch it. This tradition is 200 years old and even today no sign of change has reached here.

When the Local 18 team talked to the temple committee and women, they learned that the tradition of men performing Garba in this nearly 300-year-old temple started 200 years ago. Women associated with the temple say that the ways of celebrating the festival changed with time, but this tradition did not change. Here Garba is performed only on seven traditional Gujarati songs and women join in singing the songs, but cannot participate in Garba.

What change is necessary?
Deepika Parsai, who has been associated with this temple for years, told Local 18 that earlier women did not come out of the house, then five men started this tradition. Now the number of people performing Garba has increased, but the tradition remains the same. We feel that when the tradition is good, there is no need to change it. Priya Khode says that this temple is famous for its unique tradition. This is probably the only temple in the whole world where men perform Garba. Therefore, it should be maintained.

women’s reaction
Sarika Parsai, Meenakshi and other women say that they have no objection to this tradition. Women can perform Garba at many places in the city and here in the temple also, women perform Garba on the full moon day. Therefore, there seems to be no need for change in this tradition. She believes that making changes to the traditions created by elders can reduce their sanctity.
