Mumbai. Morning breakfast has become expensive for the people living in Mumbai. Earlier the price of egg had increased from Rs 74 to Rs 78 a dozen. Whereas the price of butter had increased from Rs 58 to Rs 60 per 100 grams. After this, the prices of bread have increased. The price of one slide bread has increased from Rs 2 to Rs 5. The price of a loaf of white bread weighing 250-350 grams has now increased from Rs 38 to Rs 40. Whereas the price of brown bread or bread made from wheat has increased from Rs 50 to Rs 55. It has been increased by Rs 5.
It is being told that the price of a big white bread of 650 grams was earlier Rs 60, which has now increased by Rs 5 and now it has become Rs 65. This increase will be effective from this week. Mumbai’s leading bread distributor Sukumar Nadar says that the price of 800 grams of bread used by sandwich sellers has increased from Rs 75 to Rs 80.
Why did bread become expensive?
The Bakers Association told the media that the price of bread has increased due to the increase in the prices of flour and raw materials mainly like fat and oil. Salahuddin Khan, director of Quality Bakers and principal member of India Bakers Association, said that the prices of refined, flour, edible oil and items used in baking have increased significantly. The recent increase in import duty on edible oil has also affected the bakery industry. The industry is facing difficulties due to price rise.
The company gave the reason
Pradeep Ghogre, Zonal Sales Manager, English Oven Brand, told the media that a large amount of flour, sugar, yeast and other resources are used every day in bakery products, mainly to prepare bread. The rising cost of basic raw materials has affected the bakery production, due to which the costs of the companies are increasing day by day, which is why the Mumbai Bakery Association has decided to increase the prices of bread.
Umesh Karira, working partner of Rajveer Brands, said that wheat flour has become costlier by 20 percent. Flour has also become costlier by 29 percent. In comparison, our prices have increased by only 5 percent. Apart from electricity, cooking gas and fuel, prices of petrol used for transportation have also increased. The last increase was in September 2023, even then the price of brown bread did not increase.
