New Delhi. Indian Railways has decided to run 6,556 special trains this year for the convenience of passengers going to their villages on the occasion of Dussehra, Diwali and Chhath Puja. Due to rush of passengers during festivals, tickets in most trains go on waiting list. Keeping this in mind, one and a half times more special trains are being run. Railways has prepared and announced the schedule.
Every year on Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja, a large number of people from across the country come to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. For the people of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, these festivals not only have religious significance, but are also a special occasion to meet families.
Trains running from the stations of Northern Railway (Delhi)
Northern Railway in collaboration with other zonal railways will run a total of 2,944 special trains during the festival. Last year, a total of 1,082 special trains were run by Northern Railway, the number of trips run this year is about 172% more than last year. Out of 2944 trains, about 83% of the festival special trains will go towards the eastern direction i.e. towards the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Assam. This includes major cities like Barauni, Samastipur, Saharsa, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Gorakhpur, Jaynagar, Darbhanga, Jogbani, Patna, Kolkata, Guwahati, Howrah, Muzaffarpur, Katihar, Tatanagar, Lucknow.
Trains running from the stations of North Eastern Railway (Gorakhpur)
89 Puja special trains will make 736 trips from the stations of North Eastern Railway (Gorakhpur) and are being run in 473 trips to major cities of the country. According to Pankaj Singh, Chief Public Relations Officer of North Eastern Railway, Gorakhpur Jn. Special trains are being run from major cities of the country to Mahabubnagar, Delhi, Amritsar, Mumbai, Pune, Chandigarh, Tatanagar, Sealdah, Vadodara, Dahanu Road stations. Apart from this, Chhapra to Mumbai, Delhi, Amritsar, Martyr Captain Tushar Mahajan, Vadodara, Udhna and Durg, Lalkuan to Howrah and Rajkot, Tanakpur to Daurai, Mau to Vadodara and Delhi, Banaras to Mumbai, Badhni to Daurai, Ballia to Delhi and Ghazipur. Special trains are being run between City and Udhna stations. Similarly, special trains are running or will be run for major cities of the country from or through other stations.
Trains to these cities will run from Central Railway (Mumbai)
Keeping in mind the convenience of the people traveling during Durga Puja, Diwali and Chhath Puja, Central Railway (Mumbai) will run 346 special trains. These trains will be run from various stations of Central Railway to various cities of the country including Danapur, Gorakhpur, Banaras, Samastipur, Prayagraj, Hazrat Nizamuddin. Whereas East Central Railway will run trains between Patna-Ranchi, Kolkata-Jammuthavi during the festive season.
