Charkhi Dadri. Vinesh Phogat, an experienced wrestling player and a vocal voice who stood against the government, won the election from Julana seat. She is now a newly elected MLA of Congress in Haryana Assembly. Phogat, one of the famous faces of Haryana Assembly elections, has won her first election from Julana by 6,015 votes. Phogat faced a tough time in the morning during the counting as she lagged or was tied with her BJP rival Yogesh Kumar several times, but this short player from Charkhi Dadri ultimately won. Julana seat where Phogat was surrounded in a four-cornered contest. The party was eyeing this seat for the first time since 2005. Amidst this tough competition, Phogat also had her sights set on becoming the first female wrestler to win an election in the state.
Phogat, who has retired from wrestling, had many ups and downs in her life. About one and a half months ago, he had entered politics as a Congress candidate in the Haryana Assembly elections. Congress was fully confident of returning to power. BJP was facing anti-incumbency wave. However this could not happen. BJP has unexpectedly secured 48. Congress had to be satisfied with 37 seats.
Phogat lost his father at the age of nine. However, the game of wrestling gave him strength. The events of the recently concluded Paris Olympics had almost broken him physically and mentally. Finally he accepted defeat. Phogat accepted that she could no longer fight this game. Phogat prepared herself for the ‘arena of politics’ and hoisted the flag of victory. Now she has emerged as a strong leader in the field of politics.
Earlier, in her illustrious career, Vinesh has won two World Championship bronze medals, two Asian Games medals, including one gold medal, eight Asian Championship medals and three consecutive gold medals in the Commonwealth Games. Overall, Phogat won 15 medals, five of which were gold. Throughout this journey, Vinesh received full support from her mother, but her relationship with the Phogat family turned sour. She was targeted by her uncle and Dronacharya Award winner Mahavir Phogat and her cousins Geeta and Babita Phogat.
All three left no stone unturned in criticizing his decision to join Congress. Vinesh Phogat, on the other hand, kept silence on her statements and instead focused on connecting with Julana’s voters. And now she has become MLA from Julana seat.
